We’re excited to share some great news for our community, Food for Families NC, Inc. has been awarded a $4,000 “Nourishing our Neighbors” grant from the Food Lion Feeds Charitable Foundation. This funding will help us expand access to nutritious food and provide valuable nutrition education to neighbors who need it most.
Food Lion Feeds Invests in Healthier Communities

At Food for Families, our mission goes beyond simply providing food we focus on delivering high-quality, nutrient-rich options to individuals and families experiencing food insecurity. Many of our neighbors face barriers like transportation challenges or limited income, making it difficult to access healthy food. This grant allows us to continue breaking down those barriers and improving access to essentials like fresh produce, dairy, and protein-rich foods.
“We’re excited and honored to receive these much-needed funds,” said Amy Niccolai, Executive Director of Food for Families. “A balanced diet is essential, and this support helps us provide foods rich in protein, calcium, vitamins, and minerals, items that are often out of reach for those we serve.”
A Targeted Approach That Makes a Difference
Food for Families operates with a unique, delivery-based model that directs resources to those with the greatest need. By partnering with social workers, school counselors, and local agencies, including hospitals we’re able to serve approximately 4,500 households each month across Anson, Mecklenburg, and Union Counties. Our approach ensures that assistance reaches families efficiently and effectively, without requiring them to travel long distances to receive help.
Programs That Nourish at Every Stage of Life
Through this grant and continued community support, Food for Families delivers impactful services across five core programs:
Weekend Backpack Program – Providing nutritious food to school children in need
Home Delivery Service – Bringing food directly to households facing transportation barriers
Mobile Food Distributions – Expanding access in underserved areas
Senior Nutrition Program – Supporting the health and independence of older adults
College Cupboard Program at Wingate University – Helping students stay focused and nourished
Together, these programs create a comprehensive safety net for individuals and families across our region.

A Shared Commitment to Ending Hunger
The Food Lion Feeds Charitable Foundation has long been a champion in the fight against hunger. Since its founding in 2001, the Foundation has provided over $25 million in grants to support food access and nutrition programs across the Southeast and Mid-Atlantic. Their ongoing partnership with organizations like ours plays a critical role in building healthier, more resilient communities.
Food Lion’s broader hunger-relief efforts have also made a significant impact, with more than 1.5 billion meals donated since 2014 and an ambitious goal of reaching 3 billion meals by 2032.
Looking Ahead
This grant represents more than just funding; it’s an investment in the well-being and dignity of our neighbors. With continued support from partners like the Food Lion Feeds Charitable Foundation, we can keep working toward a future where everyone has access to the healthy food they need to thrive.
Thank you to Food Lion Feeds for helping us nourish our community-one family at a time.
